For a Better Tomorrow

Our Story

In 2017, The Beacon Tutor Centre was formed to help students who couldn't cope with the pace of mainstream education. We quickly realised it's not just the pace — many students need an environment that specifically caters for their individual needs.

The Beacon Tutor Centre grew and our mission became a reality. We have classes with a maximum of 8 learners per grade, from Grade RR to 12, where students with specific educational and environmental needs truly thrive in our care.

We work with students experiencing:

Dyslexia Dysgraphia Sensory Disorder Depression & Anxiety ADHD And much more

Active Learning Approach

Where we have a teacher, we have a classroom

At The Beacon Tutor Centre we believe education goes beyond the classroom walls. Our active learning approach builds confidence, communication skills and critical thinking — preparing students not just for exams, but for life.

01

Active Learning

"Learning by doing" — our three-phase model covers Underpinning (building foundations), Ownership (self-reflection and guided assignments), and Engaging (active participation driven by critical thinking).

02

Project-Based Learning

Students experience subjects first-hand through researching, investigating and answering real questions — building academic and professional skills they'll carry for life.

03

Cognitive Activation

We encourage students to analyse and improve their own learning methods — from self-testing to top-down and bottom-up thinking — maximising the time and potential they have.

04

Personalised Learning

Modern teaching methods allow us to cater for students who were penalised by traditional approaches — including those with physical and learning differences.

Outside Active Learning

Our teachers think outside the box — literally. We allow students outdoor time during learning, where they practice movement, express emotions, laugh and have fun. Because where we have a teacher, we have a classroom.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, absolutely. This learning and teaching style is a clever way of building confidence. Without the restriction of being seated, movement helps break the feeling of being the centre of attention — replacing anxiety with confidence.
By allowing students to interact with each other and teachers, we create a "breaking state" moment. The feeling of "all eyes on me" is replaced with a strong support structure where ideas and fun facts are shared freely.
By building confidence and communication skills through their school career, we enable students to enter work environments knowing what communication is, appreciating different perspectives, and handling constructive criticism with grace.
